Ports
SMTP settings are the outgoing server name, port, encryption and sign-in method an app needs to send mail through your provider. Most providers use port 587 with STARTTLS or 465 with SSL, and your full email address as the username.
FAQ
SMTP settings tell an app or email client how to send mail through your provider: the outgoing server name, the port (usually 587 or 465), the encryption (STARTTLS or SSL), and how to sign in, usually your full email address plus a password, an app password or OAuth.
Server smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port 465 or 587, SSL required (TLS if available), authentication on, your full Yahoo address as username and a generated app password instead of your normal password.
Personal and free organisation accounts use smtp.zoho.com; paid accounts on your own domain use smtppro.zoho.com. Port 465 with SSL or 587 with TLS. The exact host depends on your data center, which Zoho shows under Settings, Mail Accounts, Server configuration details.
GoDaddy Workspace Email uses smtpout.secureserver.net on port 465 with SSL (587 also works). If your GoDaddy plan is Microsoft 365, use the Microsoft settings instead: smtp.office365.com on port 587 with STARTTLS.
Use 587 with STARTTLS unless your provider or app says otherwise; it is the standard submission port and the only one Microsoft 365 supports for SMTP AUTH. Port 465 (SSL from the start) also works with Gmail, Yahoo, Zoho and GoDaddy. Port 25 is for server to server delivery.
Most providers no longer accept a plain account password from apps. Gmail and Yahoo want an app password, Outlook.com requires OAuth, and Microsoft 365 needs Authenticated SMTP enabled for the mailbox. Check the warning on the provider card above.
These settings connect one mailbox to an app. Cold email at volume needs separate sending domains, several warmed inboxes and a limit of about 30 sends per inbox a day, so the settings are the easy part and the infrastructure is the real work.
